99.9's "The Rock"
The Rock is the largest of the Genrecons and easily the most purposefully vague. The Rock covers the local rock music in the scene from traditional Rock & Roll, to Hard Rock, Groove Rock, Goth Rock, 90s/00s-flavored Rock - it's the music that scratches that "I need to rock out!" itch. The Z's "The Rock" Genrecon boasts over 2,600 tracks from North Carolina musicians.
99.9's "The Vibes"
The second-largest Genrecon, with just over 1800 songs so far, goes to "The Vibes". The Vibes is an entire playlist dedicated to music that just feels vibey. 99.9's "Futurecore"

99.9's "Cypher 99"
Cypher [ss-eye-fur]: noun. A style of freestyle rap in which the rappers take turns one after the other. As one finishes their lyricism, the next enters the flow. This continues until the cypher is broken - either by failure to recover to the beat or by interruption of flow.
Next, also with just over 850 tracks so far, is our Rap, Hip-Hop, & R&B music block: "Cypher 99". In this Genrecon, we've got bops, we've got drills, we've got soul, rhythm, flow, and every combination in-between. The hip-hop scene in North Carolina is unbelievable! The passion for the art form that "The Z" has found across the state is so abundantly present in the music that's released. Dive into "Cypher 99" and find that next banger that you're gonna show off at your next house party. Find that incredible lyricist that's still the diamond in the rough, and watch them shine as they grow in their art and penmenship. Find that track that gets you hype on the Mondays and the Fridays - to the club and to work.

99.9's "Out Yonder"

It's the small-town values in a big world-type of vibes in this Genrecon. It's standing up for what's right, for yourself, and for your friends. It's the personal experiences that make life what it is - for the better and the worse. The artists in this genre have such soul to their music that it'd be hard to replicate it any way else. It ain't all cornbread and biscuits Out Yonder, but it is all out of the Carolina pines. "Out Yonder" comes in with over 600 tracks so far!
99.9's "The Deep"
You know that feeling when you're at a DIY metal show and that first pit opens up? That little twing in the back of your head that says: "I'm in danger"? The rush of the fight or flight? We captured that feeling and created an entire Genrecon devoted to the heaviest of hardcore. The barons of brutality. The mightiest of metal music. Anything that fits this vibe ought to come with a warning label for your neck and hire you a massage therapist. Dive top to bottom, just over 400 tracks so far, and try not to crack your neck under the pressure of the dark depths! It's...!

99.9's "NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!"

The powers that be, try as they might, will never silence the voices of these North Carolina artists! Would you have ever guessed that sleepy little NC is home to one of the most epic punk rock scenes in the southeastern United States? No? Us, either! Boasting just over 450 songs so far from numerous artists, this scene is as diverse as it is full of chaotic love. These artists have such a passion for their music that they can't possibly contain it with some notion as silly as "inside voices". F*** THAT! This is punk rock at it's finest! If someone's not crowdsurfing from the stage and back, screaming obscenities about the government on their way to get another $3.00 beer at the your local dive bar at your Saturday night punk show - what are you even doing?!
99.9's "Hardcooore!"
With just over 400 tracks in this playlist so far, we're now getting into the more niche Genrecons! "Hardcooore!" - that phrase associated with such a deep, primal recognition in the senses. That special, individual chord that's struck just right. Intense, roaring vocals over intricate and powerful guitars and blasting, roiling drum beats! The intricacies of the hardcore vibes aren't all that elaborate, but they are a rare vibe to cultivate in NC, it seems! Headbang your way to happiness and prepare to thrash! It's...!

99.9's "Warped"
The crew often refers endearingly to this Genrecon as: "The Fine Whine of 2009". Boasting just over 350 songs so far, this is easily the most niche vibe that we've managed to find across North Carolina to date! Adversely, it's also one of the crew's personal favorites! The bands and musicians within this vibe encapsulate that millennial feeling of the old Vans Warped Tour (thus the name), and simultaneously bring the ruckus and energy that today's crowd loves so much! The live experiences will blow your mind even more than the digital tracks because these bands are able to engage with and relate to their audiences through their sound, and have zero problem telling you what's on their mind or how they feel. One could say it's a little... emo? It's...!
